Swivel Rocker Replacement Cushions

It’s important to know when you need swivel rocker replacement cushions because you may be using a cushion that does not support you properly, or it may be an eyesore even though it feels good.  Taking the time to evaluate your swivel rocker cushion will ensure that you use a cushion that properly comforts and is esthetically pleasing. Luckily, it generally takes a long time for a swivel rocker cushion to wear to the point that it needs to be replaced.  So, you should have plenty enough time to watch for all the signs of wear and replace yours when it’s time.

Check Cushions For Wear Out

Over time swivel rocker cushions wear out.  Even though we tend to ignore the wear because we get used to the look and feel, that does not stop it from happening.  Cushions wear out in different ways. The wearing-out process usually consists of the wearing out of three different parts of the cushion:

  1. Seams wear out and become loose and disfigured
  2. The fabric wears out and becomes thin with holes and fading
  3. Cushion filling becomes flattened, lumpy, or otherwise not therapeutic

Very little can be done against wear once it happens, but we can monitor it before it becomes unsightly and causes discomfort.

As cushions age, the threads in the seams can become loose or broken.  This causes the definitive edges of the cushion to change their appearance, and if severe enough, the cushion filling will begin to protrude through the seams.

Fabric becomes worn after significant use.  Repeated friction from a person’s clothes against the cushion fabric breaks down the fabric’s surface and begins to make the fabric thinner. The thinning of the fabric will change the colors and begin to mar any fabric patterns. Eventually, a hole can form.  Once the hole forms, the filling will start to come out.  If this sounds like an issue you are having, then you need new swivel rocker replacement cushions.

Cushion Fill

Polyester filling is generally used to fill rattan swivel rocker cushions.  Although swivel rocker cushions are thick and generously stuffed, the polyester will begin to break down and lose its spring, flatten out, and clump together over time.  As part of the aging process, the clumping together of the fill can make it uncomfortable.  The compressed and lumpy filling can be uncomfortable and may also become unhealthy if you sit too long in the rocker.  To ensure a comfortable ergonomic sitting position on the swivel rocker, ensure that the cushion is fully stuffed with no lumps.  If this sounds like an issue you are having, then you need new swivel rocker replacement cushions.

How Long Can A Cushion Last

Many people want to know how long a cushion will last.  There is no real good answer.  But, if you care for your cushions and don’t abuse them, they should last several years without a problem.  We have had people keep a swivel rocker cushion for over 15 years, but it probably should have been replaced a few years prior because of how ratty is was. If we had to guess, seven to 10 years is average before you would have to replace your swivel rocker cushion.
